TEG is manufactured in Ethylene Glycol / Ethylene Oxide factories and is prepared as a co-product of ethylene's oxidation at high temperature in the presence of silver oxide catalyst. Oxidation is followed by hydration of ethylene oxide and yields mono, di, tri and tetraethylene glycols. TEG is one of these products.

HANDLING
- Provide good ventilation of working area (local exhaust ventilation, if necessary).
- Do not eat, drink or smoke during work time.
- Wash hands before breaks and after work.
- Remove contaminated clothing and protective equipment before entering eating areas.

- Avoid breathing the smoke, dust, gas, spray, vapor of the product.
- When handling product in drums, safety footwear should be worn and proper handling equipment should be used.

- Keep containers closed when not in use.
- Do not pressurize drum containers to empty.
- Cleaning, inspection and maintenance of storage tanks is a specialist operation, which requires the implementation of strict procedures and precautions.
- Drums should be stacked to a maximum of 3 high.
- Do not cut, drill, grind, weld or perform similar operations on or near containers.
SAFE STORAGE (Requirements for storage areas and containers)
- Avoid formation of aerosols.
- Vapours can form an explosive mixture with air.
- Keep away from sources of ignition - refrain from smoking.
- Store in a dry place.
- Keep containers tightly closed.
- Do not store together with oxidizing agents, strong acids, strong bases.
- Handle and open containers with care in a well-ventilated area.
- Tanks must be clean, dry and rust-free.
- Suitable materials: Stainless steel, Mid steel, Carbon steel
- Keep away from food, drink and animal feeding stuffs.
- Spills of these organic materials on hot fibrous insulations may lead to lowering of the autoignition temperatures possibly resulting in spontaneous combustion.
DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS
- Do not dispose into the environment, in drains or in water courses.
- Recover or recycle if possible.
- Disposal should be in accordance with applicable regional, national, and local laws and regulations.
